Toroline, ReString & Grapplesnake — The European Alternative to Mainstream Tennis Strings - Tennis Rackets Europe

Pro-Level Strings That Last Longer Than ALU Power — Our Honest Testing Notes

Tennis Rackets Europe

Most competitive players know the mainstream string names: Luxilon ALU Power, Babolat RPM Blast, Solinco Hyper G, Tecnifibre Black Code.

Those strings still matter. But they are not the only serious options anymore — and in some cases, they are not even the best ones for your game.

At Tennis Rackets Europe, the string brands we keep coming back to are often the ones built around setup logic rather than mass-market visibility: Toroline, ReString and GrappleSnake.

This is not a hype list. It is a practical guide — based on our own testing across different rackets and setups — for players who want more feel, better snapback, cleaner control, or a more specific match between racket and string.

Why look beyond mainstream strings?

The default string is not always the best string for your game.

A Blade 98 18x20 player, a Pure Aero 98 player and a pro stock frame collector all need different string behaviour. One may need a lower launch angle. Another may need more pocketing. Another may need a shaped poly that grabs the ball without becoming unpredictable after two sessions.

That is where smaller premium string brands become genuinely useful. They often build around specific playing problems instead of trying to be everything for everyone.

Durability: one of the biggest differences we found

One of the most consistent findings from our own testing is how much longer these strings maintain their performance compared to mainstream options.

Strings like GrappleSnake Tour Sniper, ReString Sync and Toroline O-TORO TOUR offer an excellent combination of performance and durability. In our testing — comparing Tour Sniper, Toroline Wasabi and ALU Power across different rackets and setups — the difference in how long each string maintains its snapback was significant.

ALU Power is a reference string for a reason. It is widely used on the pro tour and delivers excellent feel and control in the first hours of play. But depending on your level and playing style, it can start losing its snapback response within 1–2 hours of hitting. That is why professional players change rackets and strings every 20–30 minutes during training and matches — to keep tension and string performance as consistent as possible.

The alternative strings we tested regularly maintained their qualities for 8–10 hours, and in many cases over 15 hours of training and match play — still performing well in terms of feel, control and snapback, even as tension naturally drops (as it does with any string).

A quick note on durability: exact string life varies significantly depending on player level, racket and setup, climate conditions, how well you care for your equipment, and playing style. Flat hitters tend to break strings far less often than heavy topspin players who generate high rotation on every ball.

If you want to understand more about snapback and why it matters for your setup, we will be publishing a dedicated guide soon — What is snapback and why does it matter? (coming soon).

Toroline: spin, feel and modern hybrid thinking

Toroline is one of the most interesting modern string brands because the lineup is not only about firmness or shape. It is about how the string bed moves.

For players chasing spin and snapback, O-TORO and O-TORO TOUR are the obvious places to start — both are among the best strings we carry for raw snapback and spin generation. Toroline Wasabi is another standout for spin, with a slightly different feel profile that suits players who want more bite and a livelier response.

For players who want more feel and a softer response, strings like Truffle X become more interesting as part of a hybrid setup.

Best fit: players who want spin, pocketing and a more modern setup conversation than simply choosing a stiff poly and hoping it works.

ReString: control, snapback and clean response

ReString is useful because the range is focused and each string has a clear personality.

ReString Zero is the most spin-forward option in the range — one of our top recommendations for players specifically looking for snapback and spin alongside durability. ReString Sync is the cleaner control and feel option — and in our experience, it is one of the strings that most closely resembles the feel of ALU Power, but with noticeably better durability and a longer performance window. Vivo sits closer to the player who wants control with a little more comfort and longer playability.

ReString makes sense for players who do not want the string bed to feel overly dead or harsh, but still need the ball to stay predictable on full swings.

Best fit: control players, advanced club players and anyone moving away from ALU-style setups into something more specific.

GrappleSnake: serious co-polys with clear personalities

GrappleSnake is not one string. It is a complete setup menu.

Tour M8 is a strong choice for controlled spin. Tour Mako gives a cleaner round-poly response. Tour Sniper is the most ALU Power-adjacent string in our current catalogue — similar feel profile, similar control reference, but with significantly better durability in our testing. If you have been playing ALU Power for years and want to explore something that holds its performance longer, Tour Sniper is the natural starting point.

Best fit: players who like premium co-polys but want to choose by behaviour: spin, tension stability, control, comfort or hybrid use.
